Extension Updates

To assure that all of you are kept up to date on a regular basis, the three regional directors and the state Extension Administration Office provides bi-weekly Extension Updates. This forum is for all Extension announcements, so if you have something to distribute, please forward it to Lori Bates with FOR EXTENSION UPDATE noted.

May 30, 2013

On Behalf of JoAnn Powell and the State Extension Administration Office:

Campus is nearly vacant this week – few students and faculty are around – but there is plenty of construction activity on campus. The $65 million dollar Lory Student Center transformation has begun; with the exception of the north end, the building has been gutted. To follow the construction process, check out http://www.sc.colostate.edu/renovation.aspx. Completion is expected by the start of fall semester 2014. Behind University Square, the railroad crossing is being updated to accommodate a variety of transportation options – this means Pitkin Street is closed for the next few weeks. Construction is also underway at Animal Sciences and Behavioral Sciences. Meridian Avenue is closed. If you are planning a trip up this summer, I suggest that you contact University Square, the department or your colleagues ahead of time so you can avoid some of the pitfalls of detours and closures. Oh – and summer hours on campus kicked in last week – 7:30 am to 4:30 pm – until classes start again in the fall.

  • Nutrition Program Supervisor (Western Region): Interviews are scheduled for June 17 and 18.

Thanks for all you have done!

Blake Angelo has accepted a fulltime position with the CSU Office of Community and Economic Development. Blake will be working alongside Kathay Rennels and Geniphyr Ponce-Pore. His new assignment starts June 1. Nice to keep you close Blake and hopefully your path and Extension’s will have opportunity to cross now and again.

Best wishes to Amy Brady who is also leaving Extension the end of this month. Amy has excelled in leading and creating 4-H youth development, volunteer and outreach programming in Denver’s recreation centers and schools in Denver. Thanks Amy.

Illustrating the Brand – Joanne Littlefield

By now you should have received a large postcard from the CSU Division of External Relations “I’m With the Brand”. As they note, “Our brand doesn’t live in the Admin Building!” We are being asked to help them tell the story of how our educational programs impact the people and communities of Colorado. CSU Extension is directly aligned in the brand messages—authentic, engaged, and innovative are just three. Go to www.brand.colostate.edu and follow the directions on the right hand side navigation. Please let me know if you have any questions as you are getting ready to submit a story idea.

External Relations/Creative Services has a photograph database (Cumulus) that contains many Extension photographs that are there for our use, free of charge. The photographers have taken some great Extension photos over the years, and this coming fiscal year I am designating part of my operating budget to having the CSU photographers travel around the state to capture events and programs to add. I’m asking for your help in identifying those events which they could photograph. They have some great resources in that database that I will be working to perhaps reorganize for our use. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any suggestions for any of these efforts.
