On Behalf of CJ Mucklow:

Off Campus Units

This week I had the opportunity to meet the new Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) Deputy Director Jeffrey Steiner. He doesn’t officially start until July 1 but we had a brief but excellent visit. He is out in the State meeting people. We agreed that building relationships between our two units was a good and necessary thing. While I know many of you already have relationships with AES faculty, other CSU personnel or Colorado State Forest Service personnel, I want to remind everyone that having these relationships is good for Extension, as well as CSU. The general public doesn’t necessarily see us as different and we need to cooperate when possible. So if you haven’t met an AES researcher or forester that works in your region I encourage you to do so. Some of the best programs I have ever done were in cooperation with these other off campus units.

Salaries

As you should know all Administrative Professional Extension staff will be receiving a raise effective July 1, 2013. The average raise will be 3% based on your performance rating the last three years. While the below information was shared with the Front Range Region I’m not sure it was with the other 2 regions.

I encourage you to read the email from Director Swanson sent on Monday, June 17. We are still in challenging budget times. The federal sequester again made budgeting a real challenge for Extension.

Letters regarding your salary increase will be sent by regional directors later this month. I also wanted to share with you some statewide information that Wes compiled regarding the 2012 performance ratings. This first table shows the distribution of ratings across the three regions, both in number and by percentage. All numbers are based on the new regional configurations that took effect January 1, 2013.

Region 5 Rating % of Total 4 Rating % of Total 3 or less Rating % of Total
FR 11 21.15% 31 59.62% 10 19.23%
PP 8 20.51% 26 66.67% 5 12.82%
W 10 30.30% 17 51.52% 6 18.18%
Grand Total 29 23.39% 74 59.68% 21 16.94%

The next table shows average ratings as well as average salaries and increases for each of the three regions.

W 33 4.12 3.90 54,409 1,618
Grand Total 124 4.05 3.91 55,564 1,648

This final table breaks out performance ratings, average ratings, salaries and increases by gender.

West Slope Vacancies

Archuleta County Director - Roberta Tolan accepted this position and started May 28. Some of you may remember her as she was the Horticulture Agent in Larimer County in the mid 1990’s.

Tri River Area Horticulture Agent - Nick Meyer accepted this position and started the first part of May. Nick has a background in landscape horticulture and Extension.

Eagle County Horticulture Agent - This position is open and interviews are scheduled for July 17 and 18. The position will also be combined with Pitkin County on a one-year trial basis to see if Pitkin County wants to have Extension return. Extension left Pitkin County in the early 1990’s.

Upcoming PLT Meeting - Jan Carroll
