Extension Updates

To assure that all of you are kept up to date on a regular basis, the three regional directors and the state Extension Administration Office provides bi-weekly Extension Updates. This forum is for all Extension announcements, so if you have something to distribute, please forward it to Lori Bates with FOR EXTENSION UPDATE noted.

Fiscal Office Update

Congratulations to Wes Scharf who recently started a new position as the director of Finance for OnlinePlus, a division within the Office of Engagement. He will remain involved with Extension continuing some of his previous duties until a replacement is found. If in the meantime you have questions regarding day-to-day activities, please contact Laura Barrera, Ellen Hughes or Sue Sidinger in the Fiscal Office.

Western Region Vacancies

  • Garfield County 4-H Program Assistant - The search committee has reviewed applications and they are in the process of deciding who will be asked to interview.
  • Regional Water Specialist - Perry Cabot has been appointed the water specialist for the Western Region. He will also have a 20% appointment with the Experiment Station and be housed at the Orchard Mesa Research Station. His start date isn’t finalized but it will be in early February. Welcome Perry!

Perceived Value Questionnaire

I now have over 500 perceived value questionnaires, mostly, filled out! I have turned the data over to a graduate student in the College of Agricultural Sciences and they are in the process of seeing if we have any publishable data of Extension's perceived worth. I want to thank all of you who took the time to pass out the questionnaire. As reported by program participants at two locations the overall highest value programs were on food safety followed by agriculture business. I will be seeking re-approval of the survey and tweeking it so we can get even better data in 2014. Thank you again.

County/Area Directors (CAD) Meeting

Look for an email soon about the details of the upcoming CAD meeting.
