It can be <strong>toxic to livestock<\/strong>, <strong>harm young trees<\/strong>, <strong>outcompete plants<\/strong>, and its <strong>juice can cause blisters<\/strong>\u2014best control is <strong>stopping seed production<\/strong> (hand-pull or weed-whack <strong>before<\/strong> it goes to seed) and don\u2019t plant it as an ornamental; contact CSU Extension for herbicide guidance if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Chinese clematis is perennial vine with solitary flowers with four yellow sepals (petal-like structures). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Large colonies may be found in disturbed areas, meadows, pastures, and rights-of-way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each flower produces numerous feathery long-tailed seed head fruits which are visible all winter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant reproduces by seeds. In Gilpin County, Chinese clematis typically starts going to seed mid-July. Monroe @ USDA-NRCS PLANTS Database<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilpin County has several native Clematis which&nbsp;<strong>are NOT noxious weeds<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of these is a vigorous, sprawling vine which can sometimes be mistaken for Chinese Clematis \u2013 particularly when it\u2019s not in flower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Western, or Virgin\u2019s Bower Clematis,&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Clematis ligusticifolia,&nbsp;<\/em>has&nbsp;<strong>white flowers<\/strong> (not yellow). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After they have gone to seed, you can tell them apart by the fact that Chinese clematis has solitary, larger seed heads (golf ball size), and the Native clematis has clusters of 3 seed heads (ping pong ball size) somewhat like the tines of a fork). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The native clematis can be valuable for erosion control and other ecosystem functions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Noxious Weed Facts Chinese clematis is perennial vine with solitary flowers with four yellow sepals (petal-like structures).
