2026 Shooting Sports – Shotgun Contest Results

The Morgan County Fair 4-H Shooting Sports Contests kicked off this weekend with Trap and Skeet contests on Saturday, June 27 and Sporting Clays on Sunday, June 28. 18 youth competed in Trap and 12 competed in Skeet on Saturday and 11 youth participated in the Sporting Clays contest on Sunday.

The Trap Contest on Saturday, June 27^th brought some extra excitement; two tiebreaker shoot-offs in the senior division! Jett Lyons placed 1^st, with Layne Steinman coming in 2^nd. In 3^rd place was Damon Lucero, 4^th was Eli Williams and 5^th was Saxson Keller. Other youth competing in the senior category were Soul Keller, Axel Lorenzini, Rylan Schreiner, and Seth Whitney. Gunnar Yocam placed first in the Junior Division. Tucker Martens came in 2^nd; Gavyn Larrick 3^rd; Wyatt Johnson, 4^th; and Bentley Larrick 5^th. Other participants were Porter Halde, Chase Hunt, Raylan Neal, and Cora Paris.

In the second contest on Saturday, Skeet, there was another two tiebreaking shoot-offs in the senior division! The outcome was Layne Steinman in 1^st, Soul Keller in 2^nd, Saxson Keller 3^rd, Eli Williams 4^th, Rylan Schreiner 5^th and Axel Lorenzini 6^th. Top award in the junior division went to Gunnar Yocam. Second place went to Tucker Martens, Wyatt Johnson 3^rd, Raylan Neal 4^th, Bentley Larrick 5^th, and Gavyn Larrick 6^th.

Rounding out the Shotgun contests on Sunday was the Sporting Clays contest. Soul Keller was 1st in the senior division. There was a three-way tie for 2^nd, so there was one more tie-breaking shoot-off. Eli Williams took 2^nd, Layne Steinman was 3^rd, Saxson Keller was 4^th, Axel Lorenzini was 5^th and Rylan Schreiner was 6^th.  In the Junior Division, Gunnar Yocam placed 1^st and Tucker Martens placed 2^nd. 3^rd place went to Wyatt Johnson, 4^th was Gavyn Larrick, and 5^th was Bentley Larrick.

The top five in the all three of the Shotgun Contests for both the junior and senior age divisions will represent Morgan County 4-H at the Colorado 4-H State Shooting Sports Championship in Colorado Springs over Labor Day Weekend.

Superintendents for the 4-H Shotgun Contests were Paul Oliveira, Levi Dixon, Jay Marshall, Odin Nilsen, and Matt Steinman.

The next 4-H Shooting Sports contest will be Friday, July 10 at 5 pm where youth will compete in muzzleloading. On Saturday, July 11, the .22 Rifle and .22 Pistol contests will be held, and the events will wrap up Sunday, July 12, with Air Pistol, Air Rifle, and Archery Contests.

Shooting sports awards will be presented at an awards banquet on Tuesday, July 14 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Mark Arndt Event Center at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.
