4-H Dog Project

The Colorado 4‑H Dog Project teaches youth responsibility, training skills, and proper dog care through hands‑on involvement with their animals.

Beginners learn how to choose an appropriate dog, set achievable goals, and meet daily care needs. Intermediate members build on these basics by practicing obedience training, learning common commands, studying breeds and nutrition, and developing communication and sportsmanship. Advanced participants take on more challenging training, mentor younger members, explore dog‑related careers, and strengthen leadership, teamwork, and budgeting skills—often forming strong friendships throughout the process.

Youth who want to expand their knowledge can also participate in Dog Skill‑a‑Thon contests.
