4-H Goat Project
The Colorado 4‑H Goat Project helps youth learn responsible goat care while strengthening practical and personal skills.
Beginners are introduced to goat anatomy, nutrition, digestion, health management, evaluation, and record keeping, with an emphasis on producing safe, high‑quality products. Intermediate members expand their abilities by exploring technology in goat production, improving herd management and showmanship, and building communication, sportsmanship, and goal‑setting skills. Advanced participants dive into current industry topics, mentor younger members, and explore leadership roles and career paths in the goat industry—often forming strong friendships along the way.
Youth may also participate in Livestock Judging, Livestock Quiz Bowl, and Livestock Skill‑a‑Thon contests.

San Luis Valley Goat Project Details
Preparing for and showing livestock can be an extremely rewarding and educational experience for youth.
The lessons learned in showing and raising livestock are invaluable. However, it can feel very intimidating to begin. These guides are broad overviews at how to prepare for showing dairy, market and breeding goats.
All exhibitors are encouraged to ask questions as they grow through the program.
