4-H Horse Project

The Colorado 4‑H Horse Project helps youth develop skills in horse care, riding, and overall horsemanship while strengthening responsibility, goal‑setting, and record‑keeping abilities.

Beginners learn safety practices, how to select a horse, basic feeding and health care, breed and color identification, and essential riding skills. Intermediate members study nutrition, digestion, pasture management, health care, and breed traits while improving riding, sportsmanship, and communication. Advanced participants explore industry topics, equine diseases, conformation, advanced riding, leadership, and career options—all while forming friendships and advancing through the Horse Levels Program.

Youth may also compete in Horse Judging, Horse Bowl, Horse Demonstration/Public Speaking, and Hippology.
