4-H Sportfishing Project
The Colorado 4‑H Sportfishing Project encourages youth to develop fishing skills while learning about aquatic ecosystems and fish biology.
Members practice casting, tying knots, choosing bait, and handling fish safely and responsibly. They also learn about conservation, water safety, and ethical fishing practices. The project promotes goal‑setting, record‑keeping, and participation in fishing events at the local, district, and state levels. Throughout the experience, youth build patience, problem‑solving abilities, and a deeper appreciation for natural resources.
Sportfishing also introduces participants to potential careers in fisheries management, conservation, and outdoor recreation.

SLV Area Clubs
The San Luis Valley Area has several 4-H clubs that coordinate events and help mentor youth members through a variety of 4-H projects. Most clubs meet once a month.
San Luis Valley Sportfishing Project Details
This project educates on the basic knowledge of sports fishing.
You must complete a sports fishing display board, or stand-alone according to state fair requirements along with a completed record book.
Requirements:
- Attend 2 projects meetings.
- Record book in a 3-ring folder will need to accompany your project.

- Manuals can be purchased on Shop 4-H or SLV Extension for $7.95
- Materials can cost $8-$25
