4-H Veterinary Science Project
The Colorado 4‑H Veterinary Science Project introduces youth to animal health, proper care, and the field of veterinary medicine.
- Unit 1 covers the basics—animal breeds, essential needs, body systems, feed, medications, safety practices, disease fundamentals, and careers working with animals.
- Unit 2 expands into animal health and disease, teaching youth to recognize normal vs. abnormal conditions, understand the immune system, prevent illness, manage parasites, make ethical decisions, and explore veterinary specialties.
- Unit 3 delves deeper into reproduction, genetics, cell biology, disease testing, zoonotic illnesses, preventative care, pet overpopulation, veterinary technology, and career preparation, giving members a strong foundation in veterinary science.

SLV Area Clubs
The San Luis Valley Area has several 4-H clubs that coordinate events and help mentor youth members through a variety of 4-H projects. Most clubs meet once a month.

San Luis Valley Veterinary Science Project Details
This project educates on the basic knowledge of veterinary science.
You complete a board and record book on a topic that involves veterinary science.
Requirements:
- Attend 2 projects meetings.
- Record book in a 3-ring folder will need to accompany your display board.

Cost:
- Required manual can be purchased at Shop 4-H (link above) or SLV Extension for $5.75
