Adams County 4-H Pocket Pet Project
Pocket pets include small mammals, reptiles such as lizards and turtles, amphibians, birds, fish, and more.
Participants in this 4-H program will learn about their chosen pet, including diet and basic care. Adams county offers pocket pet workshops several times a year.

Project Info and Requirements
The pocket pets project includes three unites:
- Unit 1: Pocket Pals
- Unit 2: Scurry Ahead
- Unit 3: Scaling the Heights
Pocket pet classes are hosted annually at the Adams County Fair.
We recommend buying or borrowing copies of the Pocket Pet Resource Handbook. Participants should also read the General Rules, Livestock, Equine & Small Animal Rules, and 4-H Pocket Pet sections of the Fair Premium Book.
Exhibition Requirements
Pocket Pet Project members who intend to exhibit their animal(s) at the Adams County Fair must complete the following:
- Enroll in the Pocket Pet Project in 4-H Online
- Complete and submit an Animal Care and Housing Form to the 4-H office by June 1
- Identify all cavies in 4-H Online by June 1
- Required in 4-H Online:
- Animal name
- Breed/animal type
- Date acquired
- Color and markings
- Photo
- Required in 4-H Online:
- Keep record of your pocket pet project in the Companion Animal Record Book available for download on the Colorado 4-H website
- Present an up-to-date Companion Animal Record Book (also called e-record) with a green record book cover at Record Book Interviews
- Enter fair classes on the Fair Entry website by July 1
- Complete and turn in the Companion Animal Record Book with a green cover by Friday before Labor Day to the Extension Office.
Learning Opportunities
Pocket Pet Workshops are held at the county Fairgrounds each year.
