Internship Program Mentors

Internships requiring funding support from Extension will be part of a competitive selection process (scored by an intern committee). All applications are subject to review to ensure internship meets the required components listed below.

Applications will be scored according to the following criteria:

Required Components:

• (Yes/No) This is applied research that supports campus / field engagement
• (Yes/No) This is an opportunity for a student’s professional development and engaged learning
• (Yes/No) There are identified connections to Colorado / community stakeholder needs
• (Yes/No) There is an identified connection to a CSU Extension programmatic area
• (Yes/No/Unsure) Includes at least one Campus Faculty/Staff (an engaged scholar, research-focused on-campus employee) and at least one field-based (regional or county-based) Extension Specialist (an off-campus engaged professional who works/lives in a community)

Scored Components: (1-5) Overall Completeness and Quality of application 1=marginal 5=excellent (1-5) Clear Identified Community Need and is considered applicable research

• (1-5) Internship ability to spend time and Engagement with Extension Field staff
• (1-5) Shows Collaboration between Campus and Field mentors
• (1-5) Student has opportunity to work with community members or stakeholders
• (1-5) Shows depth of professional and educational development for the intern
• (1-5) Ability for internship to produce deliverables/outcomes/impacts

By submitting an internship proposal, if selected, you are committed to providing the best possible experience for students and will uphold the requirements and expectations of the program, including but not limited to:

• Supervision of student intern
• Completing all required paperwork
• Approving intern’s hours on a biweekly basis
• Attending all required mentor trainings
• Supporting intern and making edits to ensure a quality end-program poster
