CSU Extension
Internship Program
The CSU Extension Summer Internship Program pairs Extension experts from around the state with on-campus University faculty who work together as mentors to provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences where they contribute to applied research efforts across Colorado.
These paid internship opportunities are available to any current CSU student regardless of their academic major or college.
How many internships are available?
The number of available internships varies annually but average around 60 per year. Since the program began in 2018, more than 430 internships have been awarded. Students from all eight CSU colleges and CSU Pueblo have participated in the internship program.
What do Extension interns do?
Internship projects range from agricultural field research to K-12 educational outreach, data collection and analysis, natural resource mapping, community and stakeholder engagement, economic development projects, and much more. Interns develop research skills with mentor support while also exploring new interests, improving their professional communications, strengthening community connections, and preparing for their careers after graduation.
What do interns receive?
Each internship is ten weeks long (30 hours/week) and paid hourly. Undergraduate students can earn up to $5,000 for the summer. Graduate students can earn up to $7,000 for for the summer. Work culminates in a final Extension poster presentation on CSU’s main campus in the fall during CSU Extension’s Forum Week.
Where are internships offered?
Internships with CSU Extension take place in various locations across the state of Colorado and combine research, program delivery, and information dissemination efforts, with hands-on learning at the local/county level. Learn more about how to submit an internship proposal.
