Get Started
Leadership starts with you
FLTI welcomes individuals from all backgrounds by removing barriers like cost, language, and access to support services. Through a strengths-based approach, participants gain practical leadership skills, build civic confidence, and learn how to create meaningful change in their families and communities.

What does it take to successfully implement FLTI in a community?
What makes a community and a host agency/community sponsor ready to be successful in family leadership? How will they be successful in implementing the Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) of Colorado?
A ready community:
- Has demonstrated successes in collaborative leadership and collective impact partnerships
- Must be able to identify a host agency or community sponsor (manages fiscal needs) committed to funding and sustainability of FLTI
- Is willing to work outside of a single issue of policy area
- Is able to work with a diverse group of stakeholders that represent the demographics and diverse perspectives of the entire community
- Is willing to share leadership across community and agency
- Is able to engage diverse perspectives and populations
- Is willing to take part in a statewide evaluation process
- Will work with families as partners after they graduate
Ready to get started?
Follow the eight-step implementation process to start building FLTI in your community:
- Contact FLTI of Colorado for a Site Implementation Guide.
- Identify a host agency/community sponsor.
- Connect with the CSU Extension FLTI team to schedule a 2-3 hour exploratory “Taste of FLTI” community meeting. Meeting includes FLTI curriculum overview, training implementation and planning processes, state structure, technical assistance, and alumni opportunities.
- Build relationships and schedule meetings with host agency/community sponsor staff, critical community partners, and family engagement champions to inform site implementation and to serve on the Civic Design Team (CDT). Include FLTI alumni if possible. Invite them to Taste of FLTI meeting.
- Define funding sources and create projected local budget (sample budget available).
- Consider potential candidates for site coordinator and other support staff to assist with exploratory efforts.
- Begin to identify potential facilitators.
- Develop an outreach plan and coordinate community presentations. FLTI at CSUE can collaborate and participate as needs arise.
