About
The History of FLTI
The Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) of Colorado began in response to families’ desire to create positive change in their communities but lacking the tools to engage in civic life. After a listening tour and statewide research, community leaders and state partners introduced a proven curriculum from the National Parent Leadership Institute (NPLI), launching Colorado’s first FLTI classes in 2008. What began with three pilot communities has grown into a statewide initiative supporting inclusive, grassroots leadership across more than 20 communities.
In 2016, Colorado State University Extension assumed leadership of FLTI, strengthening its capacity to empower families through civic engagement, shared leadership, and community-driven solutions. Today, FLTI continues to grow as a powerful model for building healthier, more connected communities through family voice and action.

Annual report
From our signature 20-week FLTI training experience to newer models like the Rural Action Project and Civic Learning Labs, we are bringing communities together across differences to find common ground and reconnect through capacity-building trainings and community conversations.
