Our mission and priorities
Jefferson County Extension’s mission is to provide research-based information and innovative services that aid in developing youth, furthering the local production and consumption of healthy foods, and enhancing plant life and natural resources.
Our priorities are land, youth, and community. We work to protect natural resources and promote community safety through education on wildfire preparedness, native plants, horticulture, and wildlife. At the same time, we support youth through hands‑on 4‑H learning and leadership opportunities, and strengthen the community by fostering civic engagement and developing local leaders.

Advisory committee
About
The committee is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. There are seven seats on the committee with three-year appointments. CSU Extension believes in the importance of meeting needs of the community. The Advisory Committee provides input to staff about community needs. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of January, April, July, and October from 9-10:30 am.
The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners established the Jefferson County Colorado State University Extension Advisory Committee (CSU Advisory Committee) in 1961. The major responsibilities of the committee are to:

- Provide input to the county CSU Extension Director regarding the development and implementation of educational programs and priorities within CSU Extension’s expertise.
- Suggest resources and delivery methods to address identified priorities.
- Serve as liaison among the citizens of Jefferson County, the Board of County Commissioners, and CSU Extension.
