Native Bee Watch – Getting Started as a Volunteer

A volunteer talks with families about native bees in Colorado

Step 1 – Bookmark

Bookmark the Native Bee Watch Volunteer Resources page.

You’ll reference this page in the future.

Step 2 – Learn

Watch the training videos. Download the field guide and PowerPoint slides (study materials). Review the other resources available to you.

Use the Native Bee Watch program page as your knowledge hub.

Step 3 – Take the quiz

Once you feel comfortable with the content, it’s time to assess your knowledge:

Remember: The quiz is a learning tool. If you don’t pass the test, you’re welcome to retake it. We want you to learn from the quiz experience. The quiz is open book. We look for an 85% or higher passing grade before you being data collection.

Step 4 – Begin monitoring

Look under the ‘Data Collection’ section on the Volunteer Resources page to access the link to enter your data electronically.

Step 5 – Email us with questions

Questions? Need assistance? Email us at NativeBeeWatch@gmail.com.

Step 6 – Check your inbox

We will periodically send out emails from Constant Contact. If you are not receiving the, check
your spam/junk folders. Look for emails from NativeBeeWatch@gmail.com and
Lisa.Mason@colostate.edu.

Step 7 – Keep gathering data!

We hope you can contribute data at a minimum of every-other-week or a maximum of every week throughout the summer. You can monitor as many plants as you want in your landscape as long as they have flowers. The time commitment can range from 20 minutes every-other-week up to 2 hours every week, depending on how large of an area you would like to monitor. The time commitment is up to you, but we do ask that you are consistent.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Have fun and thank you for contributing data to this valuable project!
