4-H Leathercraft Workshop Helps Youth and Leaders Improve Skills

2025 Impact Highlight

Douglas County, Front Range Region

Statewide 4-H Leathercraft Leader and Member Workshop

There are few opportunities for Colorado 4-H youth and leaders to learn in-person about leathercrafting. A leathercraft workshop allowed for transgenerational knowledge sharing to take place, resulting in tangible pieces of work.

In Douglas County alone, there was a 75% increase in 4-H leathercraft project participation at the 2025 Douglas County Fair, and those who moved forward to the Colorado State Fair placed much better than in previous years. One of the judges at the state fair noted that they believed the quality of all leathercraft projects improved, demonstrating the impact and value of the statewide workshop facilitation.

After the conclusion of the leathercraft workshop, attendees were sent an evaluation of the event, and of those who responded, 100% claimed that they would attend a workshop like this again and that they learned something during the workshop that helped them with the leathercraft project.

Many individuals commented that they would love to see more statewide collaboration and leadership, and that all 4-H project areas could benefit from in-person statewide collaboration workshops.

One individual stated, “The leader training was quite helpful and showed us where the future of the program is heading.”
