Do you enjoy the art and science of food preservation? Would you like to build expertise in safe food preparation and preservation while teaching others? Consider becoming a CSU Extension Master Food Safety Advisor.
Master Food Safety Advisors are trained volunteer educators who provide the public with research-based food safety and preservation information from Colorado State University and the USDA
Who Can Volunteer
- Adults 21 years or older
- Interest in food safety, preparation, and
- preservation
- Desire to learn and work with the public
- No prior education required
Volunteer Opportunities
- Assist with food preservation workshops
- Conduct food safety and preservation demonstrations
- Teach handwashing and general food safety lessons
- Support farmers markets and grocery store displays
- Judge county fair exhibits
- Write newsletter or newspaper articles
- Answer consumer phone calls and emails

Training Expectations
- Complete a 30-hour training
- Pass final written exam
- Complete 30 volunteer hours annual
- Complete 5 hours of cont. ed.
Training Fee
$250 (Scholarships available)
