Decision tools

Management of a farm or ranch operation requires daily decision-making, or more precisely, determining which alternative will most likely allow the agricultural producer to achieve their goals and be as profitable as possible. Our decision tools contain detailed instructions on how to correctly use and input data into the tool to help you with your decision-making process. These tools are meant to be used as a guideline only for your current decision-making process, and they do not replace your own judgment and personal decision-making preferences.

Land rental & custom rates survey

Colorado State University Extension annually conducts a survey of custom rates charged for various crop and livestock operations and lease arrangements in Colorado. Electronic data were collected from agricultural producers, landowners and managers, lenders, agricultural consultants, machine operators, and Extension agents. The results from more than 235 respondents were combined with anecdotal data collected throughout the year. View the 2025 survey through the button below.

Enterprise Budgets

The ABM Team develops detailed enterprise budgets of average costs and incomes associated with growing major crops and livestock produced in Colorado on a regional basis. The budgets are updated annually for the previous crop year. The budgets can be used to determine if you are a low-cost producer based on the average costs for your specific crop.
