Salary Task Force
The Salary Task Force headed up by Eric McPhail will also be meeting Tuesday, January 30 at the same hotel as the CAD Meeting. The intent of the meeting is to further discussion on salary issues and maybe to broaden the ways we compensate our employees beyond just salary. All input is welcome. Contact your regional rep or me or Eric if you have input.

Congratulations!!
Robin Young was named 2017 Weed Person of the year by the Colorado Weed Management Association. Way to go Robin.

Michael Fisher for organizing an international educational opportunity. While Michael didn’t get an award, I do want to recognize his efforts in getting this trip to Spain accomplished. From what I’ve heard it was a great event and he will be planning another international educational trip in 2020. Thanks Michael.

Dr. Tony Frank and Dr. MatsushimaCSU President Dr. Tony Frank was named as this year’s recipient of “Citizen of the West”. As you all know I’m a student of the west and I applaud Dr. Frank for this honor to him and CSU. He is the fourth CSU person to be recognized. See attached photo of Dr. Frank and Dr. Matsushima (he’s over 90 years old). Dr. Matsushima was my neighbor growing up in Ft. Collins and a past winner of the award, esteemed Animal scientist and also a great guy. Hey what can I can I say? I got to Steamboat in 1970 skiing with him and his family!!!

Karen Massey was recently recognized by the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council for a lifetime achievement award. As you know, Karen was the Routt County Director and FCS agent for the last 7 years and it was cool to go to her awards ceremony and see her recognized. Hats off to Karen!!

The second picture attached is from my son burning slash piles on the ranch we manage north of Steamboat Springs. A great photo but I could be biased!

CSU 2018-2019 Holiday Schedule
The State Personnel Board has given academic institutions the authority to substitute days that coincide with the academic schedule for the 10 legal holidays. Further, individual departments whose responsibilities dictate unusual work schedules may establish holiday schedules which deviate from the University’s schedule (see pages 2-12 and 3-19 of the Human Resources Manual).

Following is Colorado State University’s Holiday schedule for the 2018-2019 fiscal year:

Wednesday, July 4, 2018
Monday, September 3, 2018
Thursday, November 22, 2018
Friday, November 23, 2018
Monday, December 24, 2018
Tuesday, December 25, 2018
Wednesday, December 26, 2018
Tuesday, January 1, 2019
Monday, January 21, 2019
Monday, May 27, 2019

Hourly employees are not entitled to payment for holidays unless work is actually performed on the day of observance.

Time off for employees to participate in religious services (e.g., Good Friday) should be charged to annual leave or time must be made up by rearrangement of the work schedule within the same workweek. Free time off for religious services is not authorized (Governor’s Executive Order dated December 1, 1972).

Note: The 2001 State Legislature designated March 31 as Cesar Chavez day. However, this day was not added as a paid state holiday. Employees and departments interested in additional information on Caesar Chavez day should contact Human Resources or review the material under the Benefits Section of the HR website.
