A Communications Taskforce to look at internal communications between Extension, CSU Colleges, and Ag Experiment Station is underway. Ashley Stokes, CJ Mucklow, representatives from each region, Joanne Littlefield, Ruth Willson, and a specialist will make up the taskforce. Improved communications is a priority, and part of the Strategic Plan initiative.
In addition, the Salary Taskforce and the Extension Faculty Status Team will be combining to address Extension agent status within the university. This is a great opportunity for Extension in the future.
New Staff Orientation online will kick off July 1. Joanne Littlefield has completed the updated online New Staff Orientation program. This could not have happened without the support of the Office of Engagement — both financial support, and CSU Online’s development of the badging program.

Spanish for Animal Health and Care – Ashley Stokes
Now, CSU has launched a new undergraduate certificate in “Spanish for Animal Health and Care” to make sure students in veterinary and animal science fields are equipped to communicate after they graduate and begin working with Spanish speakers in a farm or ranch setting. The new certificate will be offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures beginning this fall, and will be available in an online-only format as well as in person. It is the brainchild of instructor Shannon Zeller and Professor Maura Velázquez-Castillo in the department, who were introduced to the problem by Roman-Muniz who is an associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences and a CSU Extension dairy specialist.
Students will need to have some basic familiarity with Spanish before taking the coursework, the equivalent of about two years’ worth, she notes. Those not already enrolled at CSU can take the program and receive a “master’s badge” instead of a certificate upon completion through CSU Online.
For more information about the program, contact Zeller at Shannon.Zeller@colostate.edu or Velázquez-Castillo at mvelaz@colostate.edu.
