Sympathy to . . .

Norm Dalsted (Pueblo County). Norm’s brother, Kevin Dalsted, died on July 14 as a result of injuries sustained from a farming accident while he was working alongside his brothers in Colorado. Cards and condolences may be sent to Norm and Joy Dalsted at 247 Dunsmere Ave., Pueblo, CO 81004.

Dolores Trevino (Mesa County). Dolores’s mother, Mozelle Lopez, passed away on August 4. Cards and condolences may be sent to Dolores at 396 Ridge Circle Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81507.

The family of Mary Frances Wagoner. Mary Frances died on August 6. She was a longtime Extension employee and volunteer in the Boulder County Extension office. Services were held on August 11 in Longmont. Contributions may be made to the Hope Cancer Center, 1950 Mountain View Ave., Longmont, CO 80501 or TRU Care Community, 2594 Trailridge Rd. E, Lafayette, CO 80026.

The family of Rodney “Rod” Buchele. Rod died on August 2. He worked as the SE Area 4-H specialist in Lamar from 1993-2003. Services were held in Garden City, Kansas on August 8. Contributions may be made to the Kansas or Colorado 4-H Foundation.

Congratulations to . . .

Sean and Jennifer Cooney (Morgan County) on the birth of their son, Reilly Cooney, born on August 10. Reilly weighed 7.1 lbs. and 19.5” in length.

Claire Dixon Front Range STEM Specialist,, was one of 22 winners in the nation to be selected as a National Afterschool Association’s (NAA) “Next Generation of Emerging Leaders in the Afterschool Field.” This distinction highlights emerging leaders under the age of 30 who are active in the afterschool community and who possess passion, creativity, and a commitment to youth; who embrace professional development; and who embody the core competencies of NAA.

Personal Information: I am happy to have recently settled in beautiful Colorado after living in a number of states in the eastern U.S., including Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. I most enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and 5-year old son and exploring our hometown of Fort Collins.

Job Experience: I am a Medical Anthropologist with over 15 years of experience as an educator, researcher, and community health specialist. Prior to working with Colorado State Extension, I was Program Director at Duke University for a community-based initiative addressing health disparities in Durham, NC. I have held several university teaching positions over the last decade, specializing in courses focused on global health and healing, cultural diversity, and health behavior change.
