Annual Performance Reviews

It’s that time of year when annual reviews are being conducted. As you know a committee has made changes to the review document. However, those changes DO NOT go into effect until next year except for the goals section. Use the same form found on the web and your goals for 2016 should be discussed with your supervisor during your review.

Western Region Vacancies

  • Garfield County Ag/NR/4H Livestock – This position closed last week and the committee is reviewing applications.
  • Western Region ABM Specialist – Jesse Russell announced his resignation effective February 19. The position has been resubmitted for approval and advertising will start in a couple of weeks.

Regional Extension Excellence Awards

Just a reminder that we are implementing Regional Excellence awards to be given at each region’s annual meeting this spring. The awards are in 5 different categories. Click here for details. The deadline is the end of February. After talking with the other regional directors, we don’t have many applicants. Please consider nominating someone or yourself for one of these awards.

Oma Fleming Speech

At our Support Staff conference last fall, Oma Fleming served as a panelist for the topic of Staff versus Agent roles and responsibilities. Oma did a great job and I wanted to share her speech with all of you. Not many folks have a 33 year career with Extension so it’s a good read. Oma works in the Dolores County office in SW Colorado.  Thanks, Oma!

Time for Conflict of Interest Disclosure Completion

Each of you should have received an email from CSU on the Annual Conflict of Interest Disclosure required of all faculty and administrative professionals annually. Please be sure to complete your on-line disclosure. If you have questions about the process or have not received the email, contact your Regional Director, or Lori Bates or Judy Barth for those on campus.

Fact Book Now Available On-Line

The University Fact Book, produced annually by Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness, is now available online for FY16 (http://www.ir.colostate.edu/data-reports/fact-publications/factbook/). The publication, in its entirety, is shorter than in recent years but is still over 200 pages. You might be interested in Extension’s entries, so I’ve summarized several here:

Page 2 under General Information – See Engagement

Page 2 under Expenditures and Resources Only – our funding picture

Pages 3, 4, 8 under Employee Information – VP Engagement incl. Extension – by unit and gender

Pages 27, 33-35 under Employee History – pattern of employment over time

There’s a huge amount of additional information, but I found these to be most interesting.   Judy Barth

Administrative Changes

In case you missed the email:

As of March 1, several changes will take place in Extension Administration. As you are aware, with the resignation of Jessi Fuentes as Director of Finance and Budgets, we are currently seeking a replacement through an open search for an Assistant Director of Finance. This position will report to Director of Operations, Judy Barth. As of March 1, Judy will begin a multi-year, phased retirement, initially working at .75FTE. It is Judy’s intent to reduce her FTE level over the next 2-3 years to full retirement. In the meantime, she will serve as Director of Operations and be responsible for a more seamless integration of our fiscal and human resource functions. Also as of March 1, Lori Bates, currently Executive Assistant to me as Vice President for Engagement and Director of Extension, will assume the position of Assistant Director of Human Resources. Lori has over 13 years of Human Resource experience and from 1994 to 2001 served as the Benefits Manager for CSU Human Resource Services. The Assistant Director of Human Resources will also report to the Director of Operations. This change takes advantage of Lori’s strong human resource training and experience and provides a planned transition and increase in FTE in the HR function.  Ultimately, this change will increase our capacity in Human Resources and integrate our fiscal and human resource functions for more effective and efficient service to Extension. An internal search for Lori’s replacement as Executive Assistant is currently underway. Until that search is completed, please continue to contact Lori for general VP for Engagement/Extension concerns.
