Seth Davis is a new faculty member at CSU with the Department of Forest & Rangeland Stewardship and part of his appointment (30%) is currently dedicated to extension, although he is considered regular faculty.
Seth is reaching out in the hopes of connecting with the Extension programs at CSU, and offering his skillset to produce new extension publications over the next year. His expertise is in tree-killing bark beetles, as well as other forest and agricultural pests. He noted from the online extension resources that there is not yet an Extension ‘pamphlet’ available for spruce beetle, one of the current major pests in Colorado. Seth would like to know if there is a possibility of putting together some resources to represent this pest species in the list of online Extension publications. He is also working to establish baseline metrics for this insect, specifically—timing of annual flights in Colorado and the development of flight and emergence calculators, and other applied ecological metrics that are useful for connecting the public and land managers with scientific information.
Seth is looking forward to making contributions to the Extension programs at CSU!

Certified Budgets and Annual Reports
Your certified county budgets and annual report forms (2016 Annual County Financial Report, 2016 County Rental Value Report and Non-Appropriated Funds Annual Report) are due by the end of March. If you are in the Peaks and Plains Region please get these to Joan Jordan by March 15th. The original forms were sent out from Jana Smilanich-Rose.
Just a reminder that you can now do your annual Conflict of Interest online in the Kuali system. They are due by April 15th, 2017, I would encourage everyone to just complete it. It’s okay to have a conflict, it’s not okay to not disclose it. If you aren’t familiar with the Kuali system and need help getting into it, contact your Regional Office for help.
At this time, you are welcome to nominate colleagues or yourself for the regional “Extending Excellence” awards. Awards will be given to non-campus-based field staff only, which includes CSU Extension and County-hired employees. The Extension Salary Task Force has prepared the attached nomination guidelines and form for your use. Please note the nomination forms are due back to your regional director’s office by the dates noted below. The $500 awards will be selected and given out at the spring regional meetings and each region has 5 maximum winners. The five categories are:
- Outstanding educator/communicator- Includes qualitative assessments from students/faculty as well as quantitative considerations (# people impacted).
- Early adopter/Program innovator- New program delivered that may be topical or demand-driven. Qualitative/quantitative assessments required.
- Volunteer manager- Qualitative assessments from volunteers and collaborators. Quantitative impacts also assessed and considered.
- Community/Partner engager- Citizen impact assessed and highly considered. Other community collaborators have input as well.
- Diversity promoter- Qualitative and quantitative impacts to underserved audiences.
Please note if you received the award in 2016 you are not eligible for the same award this year. That does not mean you cannot apply for the other categories listed.

- Congratulations to Jennifer Wells, SEA Director for her retirement announcement. Jennifer’s last day is scheduled for April 21, 2017.
- Congratulations to Kaye Kasza SEA/Bent County FCS Agent for her retirement announcement. Kaye’s last day is scheduled for May 1, 2017.
- The new Small Acreage Management Specialist position with NRCS closes March 14, 2017. They will be located in Cañon City, CO at the NRCS office. The position will focus on small acreage management within forestry, irrigation, pasture and weed management.
- Southeast Area Extension Agent, (4-H Youth Development), Prowers County, Lamar, CO position closes March 23, 2017.
- The Golden Plains Area (GPA) Area Extension Agent, Agronomy/ Weed Science in Sedgwick County, Julesburg, CO position closes March 30, 2017.
